Hi,

Not used the site that you have mentioned. However,I have bought a disc from satnavupgrades.co.uk for a pro system on an E91 and it has been faultless for a year or so.
The companies all seem to be offering the same sort of product so I wouldn't be too worried. Its a nice, cheap upgrade.Shame that BMW can't reduce their prices as I would quite happily have bought an oem product for a little bit more.

I've used Tony @ BMWNavigation for my upgrade and its been absolutely fine. He talked me through it as I was worried about bricking my unit.
You should have no issues with it at all.

Well, I took the plunge, and used these guys for my update.
Whilst I've not had much of a chance to fully test the new maps, I have noticed that my Sat Nav lady has developed Laryngitis.
Specifically, her voice has gone completely. Has anyone had this problem, or does anyone know how to get her back?
Alternatively, I would be happy without her, as long as the system didn't turn down my music when she doesn't speak.
I'll give the chaps a ring if no one knows, but I thought I'd ask first..

Good luck chaps. I have used a few of these 'knock-off' discs over the years in various iDrive cars. Out of 5 cars 3 cars I owned faced a dvd drive failure after using these discs for a long period of time. This occurs especially in the hot summer months when the copied discs cause the disc to spin at a higher than usual speed. Eventually the disc gets stuck in the drive.
I was always covered under BMW warranty so no issues for me to have the drive replaced but those who are not may want to keep this in mind as replacement drives are circa £650 and also need the car to be reprogrammed!

Give Tony a call, he's very helpful and knows his stuff. He should be able to tell you what went wrong.

Certainly my intention, but I just wondered if anyone had the same, and knew the quick fix!

I was considering using an updated map disc (copy) in my Alpina but got told the same info in that it would break the drive. Does anyone know what would cause a copied disc to make the drive spin at a higher speed?

You can easily burn your own disc once you get hold of the Map data. There is a reason why every major company seems to be trying to make ISPs ban Torrent sharing sites.
The DVD drive in my car simply refuse to read 'home burned' DVDs with any accuracy. As am result the drive would spin up the DVD up more often in an attempt to read the data. Not sure if that would cause drive failure in the long term.
Ofcouse how legal it is to burn pirated data and sell it on for profit is another mater all together.

Not heard about the disk having to spin quicker. Copied disks tend to work the laser harder in the drive as the 'pits' that are formed form burning are not as well defined as those from an original which is created by pressing and not burning.
The laser literally wears out a lot sooner than it would with an original disk.

I have just bought a set - my X5 is running a 2005 disc so a refresh was more than needed.
I will post once I have performed the upgrade to let you know my thoughts.

2008 Bmw Navigation Dvd

I get my data for the discs from the same place as both the companies listed above, I don't sell any of them on main websites like that due to the honest fact it is actually illegal. I have only brunt discs for my own cars and for friends cars but never had a problem and as we get them from the same place should be fine.
Sold a few on forums and a few 21012 range rover ones over this year, and VW ones are popular, I sell them cheap like £10 as it costs pennies for discs and not always 100% guaranteed to work as it all depends on your climate, the condition of the laser, all sorts.
Hope this helps

I just got a 2008 E61 with pro nav but no DVD. The dealer has promised to get hold of one for me and forward it on but I'm assuming it's easy enough to find a DVD image and burn it myself.
Any tips on makes of DVD's/burning methods that might mean it doesn't lunch the DVD drive?

2015 Bmw 330i Problems

I ran discs like this twice in my ProNav E90 and have been disappointed.
Both times they simply ran much slower in use than the factory discs with it taking longer to find addresses/directions and also doing far more loud and continuous searching of the discs in normal use. After about a year one or two both failed to work and I resorted back to the outdated factory DVD.
I'd much prefer to buy a genuine BMW one and would at £100, but they want £180, which is why they hardly ever sell any.

Given they can be bought for £6 off ebay as oppose to £180 you pays yer money and all that!!
I've sold my E61 now but was using a non OEM 2013 DVD with speed cameras and it worked perfecty for the 8 months I had the car.

Bmw 330i 2015Similar experience here. The knock-off disc I tried (E63 pro nav) behaved just as you described. I binned it after a few days for fear of damaging the reader. Got a genuine 'last years' disc of the Bay in the end.

I have a e91 with pro nav and had to replace my DVD drive just after purchase 2 years ago. Used birds in uxbridge with bmw parts. Only cost £190 all in. Have used a disc from satnavupgrades for 2 years since and no issues. What model have you got that costs £650?
